Trident Reach help 8 people rough sleeping in a derelict building into housing

Posted on: 20 Dec 22

Working with partners, the Rough Sleepers Outreach and Mental Health Teams were able to support 8 people sleeping rough into housing and accessing support.

The teams were approached by partners to help eight individuals who had been sleeping rough earlier this month. They were in a derelict building and there were concerns about them being at risk from the unsafe conditions in the property.

The teams joined West Midlands Police, the Fire Service, and Power Grid Operators at the location and were also supported remotely by Birmingham City Council and the rest of the outreach team.

By working with these partners, they were able to not only help all the people into safe accommodation away from the dangerous building and cold but also access wider support services where it was needed.

One of the partners said, “I want to pass on my thanks and gratitude helping my teams at short notice … Without such a quick response from you and your team this would not have been possible”.

Another said, “I was recognised and stopped by 2 of the males from the re-homing operation, who wanted to tell me, how they now have fresh pillow’s, fresh bed, access to hot water and food. They were very grateful and wanted to pass their thanks onto everyone who helped them get there!”

It is vital that we work well with local partners to support people who are rough sleeping or homeless. It means that we can help them to move into safe and comfortable housing and access services. Trident is proud that our teams were able to help these 8 people to access the support they needed.
