Swap your home

Find out how you can swap your home

Have you grown out of your home? Or are you looking to downsize to something more manageable – you can swap your home!

Known as ‘mutual exchange’, social housing tenants can apply to swap homes with each other. This means you can choose a home that better suits your needs.

You can stay with us at Trident or even move to another housing association if you wish. This can help if you are looking to move around the country.

1) Register for HomeSwapper and start looking for homes you might like.
2) When you’ve found a possible swap, fix a date to visit and see if it’s right for you.
3) Confirm your swap.
4) Once you find a swap you must seek our permission. To do this, you should speak to your housing officer. We will let you know within 42 days whether we will approve your application.
5) Move into your new home!

To help improve your chances of swapping homes, you should make sure your home is neat and tidy as it will make your home more appealing. This includes the garden as well as the house.

You will need to:

  • Get our permission as well as the agreement from your potential new landlord before swapping.
  • Have a secure or assured tenancy to swap.
  • Make sure that you are moving to a home the right size for you so neither too large or too small.
  • Make sure that you have have paid all your rent and that you have no records of anti-social behaviour or court orders against you as this may prevent you from swapping.
