Learning Disabilities Services

We support people to live with more independence, and achieve the best possible outcomes.

Our Learning Disability Service supports people with learning disabilities to live independently in communities of their choice.

Below are services that we current offer to young people across Birmingham, the Black Country and Coventry:

Our Birmingham Learning Disabilities Service offers housing related support providing accommodation to people with learning disabilities and/or autism, aged 16 and over in north and south Birmingham.

The service also helps support customers to develop the skills and resources required to live independently. This includes supporting them to learn practical skills such as:

  • managing a home
  • budgeting
  • applying for benefits
  • dealing with maintenance issues
  • getting into training or work

Our Sandwell Learning Disabilities Service offers supported housing for people aged over 18 who have learning disabilities.

We currently provide eight self-contained flats in Smethwick.

Referrals into this service are managed by the Vulnerable People Housing Service within Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. Applications for this service can also be made via approved trusted referrers, such as Social Services.

The support available is to assist people with learning the necessary skills for independent living. All services have access to an evening concierge service as well as an out-of-hours service.

Sandwell Services help to fight prejudice

Our Short Breaks service provides opportunities for children and young people with disabilities to grow and enhance their personal skills and development whilst providing families with a break from their caring responsibilities. Our aim is to ensure that families who have children with disabilities have the support they need to live a more normal life.

Services we provide include:

  • Personal Care – develop, manage and support personal care needs to look after health and wellbeing.
  • Outreach Support – develop independence skills and personal development through activity-based care.
  • Transition Service – for young people aged 12 and over, supporting the person to prepare for adulthood (available in Wolverhampton only).

Our Coventry Learning Disabilities Service offers a housing related floating support service to people with learning disabilities and/or autism, aged 18 and over in Coventry.

The service also helps support customers develop the skills and resources required to live independently. This includes supporting them to learn practical skills such as:

  • managing a home
  • budgeting, applying for benefits
  • dealing with maintenance issues
  • getting into training or work
