Trident Group plants trees to improve quality of life as well as their carbon footprint

Birmingham based housing, care and support organisation, Trident Group, kick started their plans to reduce their carbon footprint by planting trees at two of their housing schemes.

Housing schemes in Birmingham and Sandwell saw flowering cherry, field maple and Himalayan birch trees planted as part of the Group’s plans to offset their carbon footprint but also improve on the landscape environment amongst their residential properties. The deciduous trees were planted last week to ensure it took place during the annual dormancy period between September and March. The trees were sourced and planted by Midland Forestry, an urban forestry specialist based in Solihull.

Whilst further work will be carried out later in the year on evaluating the Group’s carbon footprint and how best to offset against it, the Estate Services team have been busy speaking with residents to see how they can start improving their residential environments by planting trees to provide not only a scenic view but to also provide oxygen and improving air quality.

Heidi Cartwright, Estates Supervisor said: “By planting trees we are investing into our communities, helping our residents to live a happier, healthier life in more picturesque settings. The more trees the less carbon in the atmosphere around them and us.”
