Free makeover transforms community centre

Community Centre, Deelands Hall, in Rubery, Birmingham, has received a makeover, ensuring it is a beautiful, bright, safe and welcoming place for local residents in the area to enjoy.

Trident Reach took over the community centre 8 years ago, from Birmingham City Council, as an asset transfer and are committed to doing what they can to support this vital community asset.

Local residents rely on the community centre, for support, activities and meeting other residents.

Trident Group’s Technical Services had instructed their contractor, TNR Midlands Ltd, to quote on a makeover of Deelands Hall, including the work as part of the Group’s ongoing capital investment projects. However, upon visiting the centre and meeting with Bernie McFall, Trident Reach’s Social and Community Engagement Manager, they decided to invest in the makeover themselves, forming the works as part of their corporate social responsibility endeavours.

Nick Hendy, Director of TNR Midlands LTD, visited Deelands Hall a month ago to give a quote for redecoration. When Nick heard of the work that is done at Deelands Hall, he offered to take on the whole makeover free of charge at a cost of over £3000. Bernie involved local residents; Tina Osbourn, Frank Campbell and Precious Campbell, to choose the colours.

Deelands Hall has since reopened its doors again, with new activities for local residents to enjoy, such as an Over 50’s Luncheon club on every Wednesday, Job Club for people aged over 25 and boxing classes on a Friday evening for the youth on the estate, to encourage and reduce anti-social behaviour.

Last week’s luncheon club saw a big turn-out in people. Attendees enjoyed a three-course meal consisting of; soup, liver and onions, sausage and onions, fish pie, followed by apple and cinnamon crumble and custard. Music was supplied by DJ Frank, alongside a pop quiz, bingo and raffle.

Trident Reach, the management, staff and residents of Deelands Hall would like to thank Nick Hendy and his staff for their wonderful, generous contribution to Deelands Hall and the community of Rubery.
