Today, we’re proud to support the Starts at Home campaign, led by the National Housing Federation, which champions the importance of supported housing across the UK. The campaign calls for urgent action to protect these vital services, which are currently under threat due to funding pressures.
📊 Why This Matters:
- Over 500,000 people in England rely on supported housing.
- Without it, the NHS could face 110,000 more days of delayed discharge and 41,000 more people could face homelessness.
- Funding pressures have already led to 1 in 3 providers closing schemes, and 3 in 5 are planning to close more.
Supported housing provides more than just a roof—it offers stability, dignity, and a sense of belonging for people who need extra support to live independently. We spoke with several individuals whose lives and work are deeply connected to supported housing, and their stories highlight just how essential it is
Hannah, a Team Leader, shared how her team works closely with residents to help them build confidence and independence. She sees firsthand the difference that a safe, supportive environment can make in someone’s life.
Anita, a volunteer based in Deeland, works at the heart of the community. She told us:
“Supported Housing is very important for the people as it allows them to get out and about and socialise. They also get signposting for groups and allows them to be a part of a community.”
Her words reflect the social and emotional lifeline that supported housing provides—connecting people not just to services, but to each other.
Raymond, a resident, spoke candidly about the impact on his mental health:
“My mental health is better and I am not always worrying about stuff, as there is a sense of security having someone there.”
For Raymond, supported housing means peace of mind and a renewed sense of safety.
These voices remind us that supported housing is not a luxury—it’s a lifeline
We all have a role to play in protecting these homes and the people who depend on them.
