Birmingham based housing, care and support organisation, Trident Group, is seeking to further support its housing residents affected by domestic abuse by signing up to gain an accreditation by the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA).
Although Trident Reach, the Group’s care and support charity, delivers vital domestic abuse support through refuges and floating support across the Midlands, the housing arm of the Group, Trident Housing Association, aims to further improve their response to domestic abuse through the introduction and adoption of an established set of standards via an accreditation process.
Launched in 2014, DAHA established the first accreditation for housing providers. It aims to embed the best practice learned and implemented by its 3 founding partners, Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse, Peabody and Gentoo. These organisations have worked innovatively and effectively to address domestic abuse within the housing sector and Trident Group are proud to stand alongside them.
DAHA has worked closely with the Home Office and Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and continue to shape policies and strategies that change the housing sector’s response to domestic abuse. The eight main priority areas for accreditation are:
- Policies and Procedures
- Case Management
- Risk Management
- Inclusivity and Accessibility
- Perpetrator Management
- Partnership Working
- Publicity and Awareness.
Accreditation means that Trident Group will offer a non-judgemental, safe environment where survivors feel listened to, and treated as individuals. Staff across all services will work hard to ensure that the voices of survivors are shared and listened to, so that their stories offer hope and help to others.

By signing up for such an Accreditation, Trident Group has shown its commitment to recognising and responding to domestic abuse and providing support to victims and their families.”
“A steering group has been set up to work towards the accreditation, which will be reviewing policies to ensure they reflect good practice, provide a training programme for all frontline housing staff, and create new guidance documents for staff dealing with domestic abuse. Therefore, ensuring that residents know they will receive a safe, sensitive and timely response when contacting Trident Group about domestic abuse.”
