There was a real buzz at Deelands Hall recently as we welcomed Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, and Laurence Turner, MP for Northfield, to see first-hand the fantastic work taking place in the local community.
During the visit, they met residents, staff and volunteers and spent time learning about the many activities and services delivered at Deelands Hall. One of the highlights of the day was a visit to the popular Women’s Boxercise class, run by Keith Tucker’s Birmingham Community Boxing Project. The sessions help local women improve their health and wellbeing, build confidence and make new friendships.
The visit follows positive discussions about the future of Deelands Hall and how it can continue supporting local people for years to come. Residents also heard encouraging news about funding support for community activities, including £15,000 to help the wellbeing café continue providing a welcoming space for local people.
Bernie McFall, who leads activities at Deelands Hall, said:
“The Mayor was extremely interested in the work Trident Group is doing within the local community and pledged to support conversations around long-term funding for community centres like Deelands Hall. Laurence Turner also shared the good news that we will soon receive £15,000 to support our wellbeing café.”
Trident Group’s Chief Executive, David Harris, also attended the event and spoke about the organisation’s ongoing commitment to providing housing, care and support services across the Midlands.
The visit left everyone feeling positive about the future. Richard Parker took time to speak with residents throughout the day and showed a genuine interest in the difference Deelands Hall is making in people’s lives.
Reflecting on the event, Bernie added:
“It was wonderful for the Mayor to take time out of his evening to visit Deelands Hall and we are extremely grateful. I’d also like to thank Rafters Café in Rubery for kindly donating more than £200 worth of food for the event. The evening was one of the highlights of my career, and we look forward to working with both the Mayor and our local MP to make our community even stronger.”
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success. The visit was a great opportunity to showcase the positive impact Deelands Hall continues to have on residents and the wider community, and highlights the exciting opportunities ahead.
