We are fast approaching April 2026, where new rules around Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) will officially come into play. This is a positive change as it puts the emphasis on making sure residents who may struggle to leave their home in an emergency are identified early and are properly supported.
At Trident Group, we take keeping you safe in your home very seriously. We are calling on your help to make sure we are best positioned to support our most vulnerable residents effectively before the changes become mandatory.
What exactly is a PEEP?
A Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan is a tailored safety plan created for you, that relies on your input so we can collaboratively make the best decisions for you and take out the guess work.
It sets out:
- What support you might need in an emergency
- How you would leave the building safely
- Where you should go once outside
- Whether any equipment or assistance is required
The aim is simple: no confusion, no delay, and no assumptions if an emergency happens.
PEEPs are especially important for people who may:
- Use mobility aids or find stairs difficult
- Have sight or hearing loss
- Experience disorientation, anxiety or confusion under stress
- Need additional time or assistance to evacuate safely
You may need a PEEP even if the issue is temporary!!
It is important to understand that a PEEP is not only for people with long‑term conditions. It is important to keep us informed even if your circumstance will imporve in time. The plan must be flexible to stay prepared for every eventuality.
Situations which are temporary in nature that still need to be communicated with us might include:
- A broken bone or reduced mobility following an injury
- Recovery after surgery or a medical procedure
- A temporary health condition that affects movement, balance, hearing or awareness
- Late‑term pregnancy — particularly if you live alone
- Any situation where using stairs, responding quickly, or hearing an alarm could be difficult
Temporary needs are just as important as permanent ones that still need to be planned for.
If you think you or someone in your household may need additional support to evacuate safely, please contact us as soon as possible so our Compliance Team can work with you to agree the right support.
